As a storytelling platform, FINDING IJEOMA is intended to help facilitate meaningful forums to share stories that uniquely depict human the experience. Alexandria Eregbu— Director and Chief Curator of FINDING IJEOMA, established the FINDING IJEOMA PROJECT in 2015 where she opened her first public studio in downtown Chicago to produce program, workshops, and lifestyle products such as tote bags and wallets to celebrate both her heritage and community. Since 2013, Alexandria has been curating dynamic and one-of-a-kind experiences across art, music, education, and justice.
FINDING IJEOMA has partnered with some of the hottest contemporary musicians such as Sudan Archives, Noname, CalidB, and presented work at premiere venues including Soho House, Virgin Hotels, Bronzeville Winery, Fig + Olive, Englewood Art Festival.
Previous projects include: How to Build a Queendom— a group exhibition which invited participating artists to present recent and new works that exemplify shared values fundamental to Black women’s creativity; Envisioning Justice— a nationally recognized exhibition which featured the voices and artwork of local artists, leaders, and community organizers who came together to address the failures of the U.S. criminal justice system and how mass incarceration impacts Chicago communities; The Annual: A New Exhibition for Chicago Art presented at Chicago Artists Coalition in partnership with EXPO Chicago; Tertiary Dimensions presented as part of PLATFORMS: a retrospective exhibition celebrating the ten year anniversary of Chicago’s queer art collective, Chances Dances; and Marvelous Freedom / Vigilance of Desire, Revisited— a group exhibition and the first of its kind to engage the richness of Chicago’s surrealist past with new works from 13 contemporary African-American artists.

How to Build a Queendom is a group exhibition that invites participating artists to present recent and new works that exemplify shared values fundamental to Black women’s creativity.
Through a series of visual artworks, sound, literature, and activations, the exhibition probes the following questions:
what are the attributes of a queendom?
how does society benefit from queendoms?
what are the conditions needed to sustain a queendom?
how do women artists come together to keep creativity, community, and the right to dream sacred?
